Acerca de

The global rise in diet-related noncommunicable diseases such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease has prompted governments to adopt legal strategies to regulate ultra-processed foods (UPFs). These foods, high in added sugars, sodium, and saturated fats, are increasingly linked to adverse health outcomes and rising public health costs. Front-of-pack nutrition labeling (FOPNL) has emerged as a key regulatory tool to promote public health, fulfill duties to inform consumers, and shape marketing practices that influence dietary behavior (Popkin et al., 2021).
FOPNL has been linked to greater transparency, product reformulation, and restrictions on child-directed advertising (WHO, 2022). Countries have adopted varied approaches, from voluntary logos to mandatory warning labels, shaped by national legal systems and health priorities (Taillie et al., 2020).
