El mejillón californiano (Mytilus californianus) es una especie intermareal que se extiende desde Alaska, EE.UU., hasta Baja California, México. Es-tudios previos indican que su población es genéticamente homogénea de-bido a su fase larvaria y alto potencial de dispersión. Sin embargo, los cambios climáticos recientes en la costa del Pacífico de Baja California han generado preocupaciones sobre mortalidad, distribución y variabili-dad genética, particularmente en los límites de su distribución. Este recur-so es vital para las comunidades pesqueras locales, que buscan mantener su abundancia frente a estas condiciones, en concordancia con iniciativas internacionales que promueven la seguridad alimentaria y el uso sosteni-ble de los ecosistemas marinos. En este estudio evaluamos la diversidad genética de M. californianus en siete localidades de Baja California, utili-zando el gen mitocondrial citocromo c oxidasa subunidad 1. Se analizaron 169 individuos y se amplificó un fragmento de 553 pb. Los resultados mostraron homogeneidad genética, sin estructura significativa entre loca-lidades (AMOVA y valores de ΦST bajos y no significativos). Además, se observó alta diversidad haplotípica (Hd = 0.837-0.997) y baja diversidad nucleotídica (π = 0.003-0.008). Estos hallazgos indican alta conectividad y sugieren que la diversidad genética de M. californianus no ha sido afectada significativamente por los recientes cambios ambientales en la región, lo que podría contribuir a su resiliencia y a su aprovechamiento sostenible, apoyando así metas de conservación y bienestar comunitario establecidas en la Agenda 2030.
