Los acontecimientos recientes relacionados con el lanzamiento de herramientas computacionales poderosas basadas en inteligencia artificial (IA) han generado inmensas expectativas y reacciones encontradas sobre la conformación de un futuro cada vez más centrado en determinismo tecnológico (Alan Turing Institute, 2019; McCarthy, 2007; Turing, 1950; Mc-Kinsey y Company, 2023; UN Advisory Body on AI, 2023; National Insti-tute of Standards and Technology, 2023; Altman et al., 2023). Por un lado, los sectores corporativos ven en general con optimismo la transformación profunda que la IA producirá en cuanto a competitividad y productividad empresarial y sus implicaciones sobre el trabajo del futuro y el futuro del trabajo (Acemoglu y Restrepo, 2018).
Por otro lado, otros sectores de la economía, educación, gobierno y sociedad muestran temores y preocupaciones sobre la falta de esquemas de gobernanza integrales y los riesgos que presenta el avance imparable de la IA sin una plataforma ética y moral ni la existencia de entornos regulatorios ad-hoc que puedan sostener su adopción en forma justa y equitativa (Whittaker, 2018; Université de Montréal, 2018; Shneiderman, 2020; Coombs et al, 2021; Adams, 2021; Bahá’í International Community, 2022). Las narrativas se encuentran oscilando entre la tecnofobia y la tecnofilia, entre defensores del acecho agobiante del empuje tecnológico de la IA y los promulgadores de un futuro brillante para una sociedad más eficiente, más conectada y ágil (AI Safety Summit, 2023).
En este escenario, como ha sucedido en el surgimiento de anteriores revoluciones industriales, la sociedad adopta gradualmente consciente o inconscientemente las transformaciones engendradas por los cambios tecnológicos asociados. Como es ya conocido, tales desarrollos tecnológicos han traído grandes beneficios y al mismo tiempo desafíos, tal como es el caso actual de la IA. Sin embargo, hay elementos que hacen suigéneris la condición que experimenta la sociedad actualmente.
